LAKE NATOMA, Calif. -- Portland Rowing's Varsity Four took first in the petite final at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championships on Sunday. The second varsity eight took third while the first varsity eight finished sixth in their finals.
The win is the first of the year for the varsity four, who posted a time of 8:15.087 to beat Saint Mary's and Seattle U. It is the first time the Pilots have won at the event since 2014. Abbey McHugh was the coxswain while Gabriella Garcia was the stroke.
The second varsity eight had the second best finish of the day for Portland, taking third in the Grand Final with a time of 7:15.
