PORTLAND, Ore. – Trey Smith hit eight of San Jose State's 17 three-pointers for a career-high 24 points in leading the Spartans to a 90-78 victory over Portland Friday night in a non-conference men's basketball game at the Chiles Center.
The Spartans (6-4) have now won five of their last six games, while the Pilots (8-5) dropped their second straight.
Mike Meadows scored a team-high 16 points for Portland, while Moses Wood, Tyler Robertson and Chris Austin added 14 apiece.
Portland shot 48 percent from the field for the game and gained a 44-26 edge in paint scoring, but San Jose State led nearly start to finish as the team knocked down shot after shot from the perimeter throughout regulation.
