SPOKANE, Wash. – The Portland women's tennis team battled but came up short in a 5-2 road loss to Gonzaga Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Center. The Pilots were missing the injured Neli Sunjic, while top player Iva Zelic was forced to retire early on in her match as well with an injury.
Gonzaga won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to secure to opening point. Zelic played through pain in both doubles and singles before retiring after the first set to Cate Broerman at the top of the lineup as the Bulldogs went up 2-0.
