PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland junior Taryn Ries scored a pair of goals and senior Jasmine Garibay added another as the Pilots defeated the British Columbia Thunderbirds 3-2 in an exhibition women's soccer game played on a picture perfect Wednesday night at Merlo Field.
Both of Ries' goals came on penalties, with the first happening in the 21st minute. Portland's Emily Collier earned the PK for the Pilots when she was fouled with possession inside the UBC box. Ries then calmly stepped to the spot and slotted it in to give the home side a 1-nil edge.
The Thunderbirds leveled the score six minutes in to the second half, but Ries handed the lead back to the Pilots when she converted another PK in the 67th minute.
