Pilots Produce Exceptional Performance Against WCC Competitors In San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots' varsity 4, second varsity 8, and varsity 8 competed at the San Diego Crew Classic on Saturday morning to conclude the first day of competition at Mission Beach.

Portland's second 8 highlighted the day by producing an exceptionally strong performance in the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness final, with Emma Papenhausen in the cox seat and Lauren Formigl rowing stroke. The team covered the 2000 meter course in 7:04.74 to finish just .8 seconds behind West Coast Conference competitor LMU and four seconds behind first place San Diego.

Portland's varsity 4 also raced in the Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup, placing first in the C final to defeat second place UC Santa Barbara by 10 seconds, And WCC competitors San Diego and Saint Mary's, who claimed the third and fourth spot.
