PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team officially opened their fall campaign at the Portland Fall Classic, which took place on Sunday morning on the Willamette River. The Pilots raced five boats at the annual regatta.
The varsity eight, which had to deal with a head wind, was the first crew out for the Pilots, covering the 5000 meter course in a time of 18:26.570. That was nearly a minute faster than the varsity eight boat from Seattle U.
The event's format was a head race, which means crews started one at a time with about 10-15 seconds in between each boat.
