MALIBU, Calif. – The Portland Pilots held on for a thrilling 73-70 victory over Pepperdine in a nationally televised West Coast Conference basketball game Thursday night at Firestone Fieldhouse. The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Pilots and handed the Waves their first home loss of the season.
Portland junior Jarrel Marshall recorded his first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while junior point guard Alec Wintering finished with 19 points, including a go-ahead three-pointer with a minute left in regulation.
After leading for the first 33-plus minutes, the Pilots (10-15, 4-8 WCC) fell behind by four points at 62-58 with 6:21 left, but Portland responded with a three-pointer by D'Marques Tyson and layup from Jazz Johnson to re-take the lead.
