MORAGA, Calif. -- Despite a stronger second half, the Portland Pilots fell to the Saint Mary's Gaels 1-0 in their WCC opener, putting the Pilots at an even 5-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. Cade Cowan scored the lone goal of the match.
Things were fairly even to start the match, with both teams putting together a few successful runs offensively early. Saint Mary's managed to get the cleanest early chances, but George Tasouris stayed strong in the goal and came up with two key saves in just the first 10 minutes.
The game swung in the Gaels' favor, however, in the 26th minute.
