PORTLAND, Ore. – Sally Pethybridge and Nadine Arbaizar Martinez won three-set singles matches but Portland dropped a 4-2 decision to No. 59 Washington State Saturday at the Louisiana-Pacific Tennis Center.
The Cougars (14-7, 4-2) grabbed the early lead by winning all three doubles match to go up 1-0. Washington State then won at No. 2 and No. 3 singles in straight sets to garner control, but the Pilots (7-9, 2-4 WCC) responded and made it a match.
Pethybridge overcame a first set tiebreak loss and being down a break in the third set to prevail 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 against Eva Alvarez Sande at the top of the order.
