TEMPE, Ariz. – Portland guard Chris Austin scored a game-high 22 points and Mike Meadows added 16 points, but Arizona State pulled out a 76-70 decision Tuesday night at Desert Financial Arena.
Head coach Shantay Legans made his debut with a revamped Portland roster, but the Pilots were without starting forward Tyler Robertson who was a late scratch due to injury. Portland committed 15 first half turnovers as a completely new roster made its regular season debut.
Despite the giveaways, the Pilots trailed by just a 31-25 margin at the half due to strong defense and rebounding.
