PORTLAND, Ore. --- The 2002 National Champion Portland Pilots women's soccer team was inducted into the Oregon Sports Hall during a ceremony Tuesday night at the Multnomah Athletic Club. Members of that 2002 squad attended the banquet, which was emceed by veteran sportscaster, Bill Schonely.
The Pilots team made history by winning the 2002 NCAA Women's Soccer National Championship to claim the school's first national title at the NCAA DI level. The Pilots, featuring then-freshman Christine Sinclair, capped a cinderella season by defeating conference foe Santa Clara 2-1 in the national title game in double overtime in Austin, Texas.
