Lately I’ve been constantly reminded of my summer at the 2007 World Series of Poker. Two players that eliminated me from bracelet events that year, John Gale and Max Pescatori, have won bracelets this summer.
Last night, Phil Hellmuth took down bracelet #14 in the $10,000 Razz Championship. It reminded me of a couple of conversations at my table in the $2,000 Stud 8 or Better Event that year.
The announcement came over the loudspeaker that Phil Hellmuth had just won the $1,500 NL Hold’em for his record-setting 11th bracelet. That announcement was met with a mix of groans because at that point, it was believed that he could “only win at Hold’em.
