Don Brown and Jim Harbaugh got a boost of confidence after shutting out Rutgers 52-0 in Saturday’s week 5 matchup. Michael Dwumbfor returned, Dax Hill showed out and Michigan’s run defense held Rutgers running back Raheem Blackshear and Isaih Pacheco to just 34 yards rushing combined. Possibly. Despite trouble defending against crossing routes, the defense as a whole looked more aggressive and seemed to be able to rush the passer more effectively. The defense recorded just two sacks vs. Rutgers but it’s a step in the right direction. Rutgers gained 70 yards on their second possession. After that, they didn’t gain more than 36 yards on any of their final nine drives. QB Sitkowski was sacked twice and hurried another four times, resulting in just 152 total yards of offense. Michigan vs. Rutgers was just his 4th collegiate game but McGrone was one of James’ standouts on Michigan’s defense. Daxton Hill, true freshman, also got some playing time in the 52-0 victory. Hill had four tackles, three of which were solo, and coach Jim Harbaugh commented on Hill’s speed and coachability. Could McGrone and Hill expect to get more playing time moving forward?
