Last week, four teams clinched their spots in the WPIAL playoffs. North Allegheny clinched a spot in 6A with a revenge victory over Seneca Valley who knocked them out of the playoffs last year. In the 5A Big East Conference, Penn-Trafford and McKeesport both clinched playoff spots. In 2A, Avonworth clinched a playoff spot with a win over Summit Academy, but got bad news this week that leading receiver Kyros Thorpe may not be eligible to play in the postseason because of the ridiculous PIAA transfer rule. This week, 14 more teams have the opportunity to clinch playoff spots, including Southmoreland who has not reached the postseason since 1979.
