In one of the more surprising moves of the offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers declined running back Najee Harris’ fifth-year option, making him a free agent after the 2024 NFL season.
The Steelers arrived for training camp on Wednesday, and Harris was asked if he was given a reason as to why the team decided not to pick up the option.
“Let me think,” Harris said. “It was [because] they didn’t know where the offense was headed. That was it.”
New offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is known for his heavy utilization of the run game.
