I know what your thinking: didn’t the Steelers let Mike Mitchell walk because he wasn’t very good. You wouldn’t be totally incorrect in that line of logic.
The Steelers have made a several changes to the safety position over the past few years – including drafting Terrell Edmunds to play strong safety, and moving Sean Davis to free safety.
So how would 32-year old former Steelers safety, Mike Mitchell, fit in? It’s actually pretty simple.
Outside of Edmunds and Davis the Steelers are very short-handed at the position. According to Steelers.com, Pittsburgh currently has Marcus Allen listed as the backup free safety and Jordan Dangerfield as the backup strong safety.
