Three weeks after the Steelers selected their rookie draft class, the logic behind general manager Kevin Colbert’s decisions have come into clearer focus. Using a second-round draft choice on USC receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster wasn’t a luxury pick after all. It was a necessity in light of what happened Thursday when the Steelers released tight end Ladarius Green with a failed physical designation.
Assuming he learns the offensive playbook in the coming months, Smith-Schuster can take over the role the Steelers hoped Green would fill when they signed him to a four-year, $20 million contract in March of 2016.
