A dozen years ago, it might have been hard to imagine Heinz Field or PNC Park playing host to a bowl game. College football’s postseason contests have historically been tourism magnets for cities with domed stadiums and/or weather much warmer than Pittsburgh’s in December and early January.
That tradition is beginning to change, though. Come the 2020 season, there will likely be at least four bowls played outdoors in cold winter climates, as Chicago’s reported new game at Wrigley Field will join matchups in New York (Pinstripe Bowl), Annapolis, Md. (Military Bowl), and Boise, Idaho (Potato Bowl), on the calendar.
