The Steelers respected their draft board as talent trumped need

The Steelers earned the distinction for having the most surprising pick of the first round Thursday night when they took Virginia Tech safety Terrell Edmunds with the No. 28 overall pick. Edmunds even said he was surprised as were many draftniks, many of whom had a third-round grade or lower for him.

But what the Steelers did with their next three picks might have been even more surprising. Three months after giving up 45 points in a playoff game to the Jacksonville Jaguars the Steelers used their next three selections on offensive players, two of which likely won’t see the field in 2018.
