Steelers sign veteran tight end David Johnson

The Steelers signed another veteran free agent, and he has a familiar look.

Tight end David Johnson, one of their 2009 draft picks, rejoins them under a one-year contract.

Johnson played the past two seasons for the San Diego Chargers after spending five with the Steelers, who made him a seventh-round draft pick out of Arkansas State.

He is the second tight end the Steelers signed from the Chargers as an unrestricted free agent. They signed Ladarius Green in March.

Whereas Green is more receiver than blocker for the position, Johnson is almost exclusively a blocker.
