Steelers sign CB Anthony Averett after rookie minicamp

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a need at cornerback heading into rookie minicamp, and it appears they realized that and have added to their cornerback room.

Pittsburgh is signing cornerback Anthony Averett after he participated in their rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Averett didn’t play in the NFL in 2023. He last played in 2022 with the Las Vegas Raiders, where he suited up for seven games. From 2018-21, he played for the Baltimore Ravens, intercepting three passes in the 2021 season.

The Steelers acquired Donte Jackson from the Carolina Panthers in the trade that sent wide receiver Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers, but were still thin at the position.
