The Steelers announced on their website tonight that Ron Hughes, who spent the past 12 years in the team’s scouting department, is retiring after 34 years in the NFL.
Hughes, a Charleroi native, coached high school football in the WPIAL for 14 years before going to work for the scouting service BLESTO. He later became the director of pro scouting and director of player personnel for the Detroit Lions before joining the Steelers in 2003.
When he was director of player personnel for the Lions he hired Kevin Colbert away from the Miami Dolphins to work for him.
