JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Veteran safety Will Allen said he loves the way Doran Grant doesn’t get flustered or back down from anybody. Secondary coach Carnell Lake said Grant has “really improved” since the Steelers drafted him and Senquez Golson in an attempt to rebuild their porous secondary with young cornerbacks.
Even coach Mike Tomlin said he likes the way Grant, a fourth-round pick from Ohio State, came to training camp prepared and ready to play.
So why didn’t Grant play on defense in the first preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings when nearly every other reserve saw action?
