Steelers release wideout Tyler Murphy

The Steelers today released wide receiver Tyler Murphy to make room for Le’Veon Bell on their 53-man roster.

Murphy, a converted college quarterback who played last year at Boston College, was the team’s No. 4 wide receiver, ahead of rookie Sammie Coates, who has not yet been active for a game.

Murphy caught one pass for 16 yards in the season opener at New England.

The team had a roster exemption for Bell until 4 p.m. today, when they had to make a move.
