Steelers release running back Knile Davis

The Steelers have begun to cut their roster to 53, and one of the first casualties was running back Knile Davis, who was signed as a free agent this spring.

Davis spent the previous four seasons with the Chiefs and Packers. Davis carried 20 times for 68 yards in four preseason games.

The Steelers traditionally keep three running backs and a fullback. Le’Veon Bell and James Conner are locks to make the roster. Terrell Watson and veteran Fitzgerald Toussaint are contenders to make the team as a reserve.
