The Steelers released halfback Daryl Richardson to help pave the way for the return of Le’Veon Bell to their 53-man roster. The team had a roster exemption for Bell until 4 p.m. Thursday.
Richardson, in his first season with the Steelers, had two carries for seven yards in three games. He was drafted by the Rams in 2013, played two seasons for them and then was on the rosters with the Jets, Texans and Browns before joining the Steelers this year.
He is eligible for a practice squad if he clears waivers.
The Steelers have Bell, DeAngelo Williams and Fitz Toussaint at halfback and Roosevelt Nix at fullback.
