Steelers Re-sign Rookie WR Tyler Murphy to Practice Squad

A day after his release, rookie wide receiver Tyler Murphy was re-signed by the Steelers.

Murphy was released on Thursday to make room for cornerback Doran Grant, who was promoted to the team’s 53-man roster from the team’s practice squad. Murphy, who made the Steelers’ initial 53-man roster at the end of trading camp, had one catch for 16 yards in the team’s first eight games.

A quarterback during his time at Boston College, Murphy was actually the Steelers’ emergency quarterback in Pittsburgh’s Week 7 loss to the Chiefs. He’ll go back to helping the Steelers as a member of the team’s practice squad, rejoining fellow rookie wide receiver and former Boston College teammate Shakim Phillips, who was also an unsigned player that found a role with the Black and Gold.
