The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to eek by with a win in Week 1, but unfortunately, they didn’t do so unscathed. After HC Mike Tomlin initially announced that punter Cameron Johnston was feared to have suffered a “serious” injury, it’s been confirmed; Johnston will miss the remainder of the year with a season-ending knee injury, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
It’s a brutal blow for Pittsburgh, who signed Johnston to a three-year, $9 million contract as one of the premiere free-agent punters available. Last year, the Steelers averaged just 44.
