Rich Gannon has been retired for 13 years, but the Steelers should be wary of the Rich Gannon Effect in 2017.
You remember Gannon, don’t you? He once threw 64 passes in a game against the Steelers at Heinz Field when his Raiders dismantled the Steelers in the second game of the 2002 season.
That was 15 years ago, but there is a lesson to be learned for the Steelers. Gannon’s pass-heavy plan that day came one week after Tom Brady opened the season against the Steelers with 43 pass attempts.
The Steelers lost both games handily and started the season 0-2.
