The Pittsburgh Steelers had a brief skirmish and the tail end of practice on Wednesday.
A fight broke out after Justin Fields was hit hard by Elandon Roberts after taking off on a read option. Rookie guard Mason McCormick hit Roberts after the play for the hit on Fields, and both sides of the ball converged in a scuffle.
Cooler heads would prevail and everything cooled down very quickly, but offensive linemen Nate Herbig was very clear with the offense’s message: protect the quarterback.
“Nobody’s gonna hit our quarterback [with a] cheap shot and get away with it,” Herbig said.
