The passing chart of Justin Fields went somewhat viral on social media after the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1.
Fields exclusively through the ball outside the hashes and didn’t target the middle of the field. However, it was heavily speculated that this may have been part of the plan, considering the Falcons have two All-Pro safeties on the back end. Offensive coordinator Arthur Smith confirmed this.
Smith said it was his choice to not have Fields target the middle of the field, citing that he didn’t want Jessie Bates to wreck the game and force any turnovers.
