According to Thursday’s official transaction release, the Pittsburgh Steelers have placed safety Troy Polamalu on the reserve/retired list.
Placing Polamalu on the retired list is formality being as the safety is still under contract through the 2016 season. The move allows the Steelers to retain Polamalu’s rights should he decide that he wants to play in again without having to tie up a spot on their offseason 90-man roster.
By placing Polamalu on the reserve/retired list, that move should signify that the Steelers are willing to absorb the full $4.5 million in left over signing bonus proration against their 2015 salary cap number.
