Almost every mock drafter has pegged a cornerback as the Pittsburgh Steelers' 25th overall pick, but history says the Steelers will avoid that position in the first round.
The franchise's last first-round cornerback is Chad Scott in 1997, the same year the Steelers last had a Pro Bowl cornerback. That man is Carnell Lake, a 1990s All-Decade teamer and current Steelers defensive backs coach.
Nineteen years, no first-rounders.
Of course, Ike Taylor was a very good cornerback for a long time. And Lake was a second-round pick in 1989. But there's a clear correlation between lack of investment in the position and lack of star play.
