The Pittsburgh Steelers have taken a couple of sizeable swings at the inside linebacker position over the course of the past decade with first-round selections in 2014 with Ryan Shazier and in 2019 with Devin Bush, but other than that, they have typically waited until day three of the draft—sometimes in the final few rounds—to find depth.
It would be one thing if Shazier were still playing, of course, but he suffered a career-ending injury before Bush was even drafted, which is one of the reasons the Steelers targeted him so heavily in the first place. And now he enters his third season while rehabbing from a torn ACL.
