Sweeping conclusions should be reserved for regular-season work, but it was hard to ignore all the open passing lanes for Blake Bortles Friday night in Jacksonville’s 23-21 preseason win.
The Steelers should clean that up.
Bortles completed 11 of 15 passes for 118 yards, which should have been at least 150 if Clay Harbor hadn’t dropped a pass on an open crossing route 30 yards downfield.
What’s noticeable about the defense under Keith Butler is the Steelers aren’t afraid to mix fronts, occasionally standing up defensive linemen instead of the traditional hand-in-dirt stance. They seem to be playing some Cover 2 zone.
