Ben Roethlisberger had last night off and if there comes a time when he is forced out during the regular season, as he was last year, the Steelers will not overlook Landry Jones again.
Jones was bypassed last season after they signed Mike Vick to replace injured backup Bruce Gradkowski. Vick then replaced an injured Roethlisberger until he too became hurt and the Steelers had little choice but to turn to Jones.
Jones helped pull the season out of the fire, and now he is nailing down the No. 2 job ahead of Gradkowski, continuing to do so with one half of quality work in a 30-17 defeat to the Detroit Lions in the preseason opener at Heinz Field.
