Steeler-sponsored Chuck Noll Foundation makes initial concussion research grants

Rooney says Pitt proposed foundation and Steelers wanted to honor Noll, but Webster case was the start

One study will try to trace pathways in the brain after a concussion by tracing a protein in sweat. Another will analyze the brains of retired athletes who have had a concussion to see how they respond to therapy.

They are part of the first five grants — worth more than $600,000 combined — that were awarded this week by the fledgling Chuck Noll Foundation for Brain Injury Research that was established in November 2016 by the Pittsburgh Steelers to fund research into the prevention, cure and basic science of concussion research.
