Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert already announced that injured linebacker Ryan Shazier would not play in 2018. Wednesday, the team made it semi-official when it placed him on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list.
Players can come off that list once healthy, and the move is often made with those players who are injured when they report to training camp.
Putting Shazier on PUP also opens up a spot on the 90-man roster to add another player.
Shazier is under contract for the 2018 season and will be paid $8.5 million, the amount of the fifth-year option in his rookie contract the Steelers exercised one year ago.
