The big sports-news story of the week was President Donald Trump’s last-minute decision to rescind his invitation to the world-champion Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House Tuesday.
There are no winners here, only losers. The Eagles. Trump. Certainly, the NFL owners. And me.
The Eagles look bad because, if the White House is to be believed, they originally told Trump more than 80 players, coaches and staff members would attend the ceremony, then dropped the number to about 10 Friday, presumably because they didn’t like Trump’s condemnation of the NFL’s new national anthem policy, which allows players to stay in the locker room during the anthem but requires them to stand and be respectful if they are on the field.
