I had two thoughts when the surprising news broke Wednesday that the Arizona Cardinals had released terrific safety Tyrann Mathieu. One, he would be a great fit for the Steelers, who have a glaring need at the position after releasing Mike Mitchell and Robert Golden. And two, there is no way they could fit him under their salary cap unless they pulled back their franchise tag on Le’Veon Bell and allowed him to become a free agent.
Then, Mathieu told ESPN he wanted to play for a winner, “to go somewhere where football is important and it matters.
