The doors to the Steelers locker room opened Sunday about 10 minutes after the disheartening loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars. The media rushed in to interrogate Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Heyward and the other players, looking for answers, looking for an explanation for one of the worst defeats in franchise history. At the same time, Ryan Shazier wheeled out in his wheelchair, headed off into the late-afternoon gloaming, looking for his own answers to his uncertain future.
Talk about putting things in perspective.
We’ll be talking about the 45-42 loss to the Jaguars for years, just as we still talk about the loss to the San Diego Chargers in the AFC championship after the 1994 season and the loss to Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos in the AFC playoffs after the 2011 season.
