Ron Cook: A college basketball season to forget ends without fanfare

We have no right to complain. The Penguins won the Stanley Cup last season and look as if they can repeat if they can keep 18 skaters healthy. The Steelers made it to the AFC championship game and are a Super Bowl contender most seasons. The Pirates, though not a favorite to make the playoffs this season, have become interesting and relevant after 20 years of losing. These are good times for Pittsburgh sports. We should be thankful.

But that doesn’t mean we’re not greedy. We wanted to enjoy Selection Sunday as much as many parts of the country, but it was an awful day for us.
