Forgotten in the long-lasting Brandon Aiyuk saga was the chance that the Steelers could be handing out another big contract — or two — this offseason. Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, the Steelers are “talking” to both veteran defensive lineman Cam Heyward and tight end Pat Freiermuth about possible extensions ahead of the start of the regular season.
The timeline is important. As Dulac points out, “time is running short” as the Steelers historically don’t negotiate during the season. That gives Pittsburgh about a week to iron out both contract situations before having to wait until the 2025 offseason unless general manager Omar Khan breaks tradition.
