Just a short period of time after signing three-year veteran safety Chuck Clark to a (relatively modest) contract extension, the Baltimore Ravens also announced that they have released starting safety Tony Jefferson, whom they signed in free agency only in 2017. This is the second time in as many offseasons that they have released a starting safety during his first contract with the team after signing him as an unrestricted free agent, following the release of Eric Weddle last year.
Clark, a former sixth-round pick, spent most of the 2019 season in the starting line because Jefferson suffered a torn ACL in the fifth game of the year, against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
