Police watchdog group drops inquiry into officer involved in Joey Porter arrest

Pittsburgh’s Citizen Police Review Board tonight closed its inquiry into the arrest of Steelers assistant coach Joey Porter.

Executive director Elizabeth Pittinger requested today that the board close the inquiry, which she opened given the high-profile nature of the people involved and the high amount of scrutiny on social media.

Ms. Pittinger told board members during a public meeting that she viewed surveillance video of the incident and found it to be consistent with Officer Paul Abel’s description of events as he wrote them in an affidavit of probable cause supporting Mr. Porter’s arrest.

Mr. Porter was initially charged with aggravated and simple assault, resisting arrest and trespassing.
