The Pittsburgh Steelers have released veteran tight end Matt Spaeth due to a failed physical examination.

Spaeth dealt with knee issues in 2015, and those issues continued into the 2016 offseason. To fill his spot on the team's 90-man offseason roster the team signed free agent tight end Mandel Dixon.
Spaeth has never been known for his pass catching skills, but more for his blocking ability. He and Heath Miller both formed a formidable one-two tight end set for many years in the black and gold, and the tight end depth chart will certainly look strange this season without either name on the list.
