The standard NFL playoff bet between politicians usually involves regional food or some other pointless bragging-right deal, so credit Rich Fitzgerald and Frank White Jr.
Fitzgerald and White, the Allegheny and Jackson county commissioners, are actually angling to do a little good; their wager on Steelers-Chiefs addresses food insecurity.
Following the game, no matter the outcome, Fitzgerald will deliver donations made at county buildings to Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, and White and his staff will serve at the Kansas City Community Kitchen. The rub is that both will wear the winning team’s jersey.
“We’re proud of our Pittsburgh Steelers and look forward to a convincing win over the Chiefs in Kansas City on Sunday,” Fitzgerald said in a news release.
