San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick decided to sit on the bench instead of stand with his teammates during the national anthem a few days ago in order to protest what he calls the oppression of people of color in this country.
Probably the worst part of this “controversy” is that we’re spending a lot of time and energy discussing the actions of a guy who is a marginal NFL talent, a backup quarterback and one of the most overpaid players in NFL history. But beyond that, the second worst part of this is that it shows how ill-informed and/or confused most people are about such things as patriotism, the Constitution and what oppression really means.
