NFL teams will draft mistakes, despite all the scrutiny

The only way the NFL could scrutinize draft prospects more would be to demand their DNA.

Not only are the college players scouted relentlessly during their fall seasons, they go through a conveyor belt of tests once they end. They are paraded literally in their underwear in a ballroom at the Senior Bowl, then put through drills all week before that game in front of the entire NFL scouting and coaching fraternity.

The NFL Scouting Combine tests them physically and mentally and interviews them obsessively. Coaches and scouts travel to their “pro days” on their campuses. Many of the prospects follow that with visits to individual teams.
