NFL team owners voted by phone on Tuesday to expand the postseason field from 12 to 14 teams beginning in the 2020 season.
The change required approval from at least 24 of the league's 32 owners.
The new postseason format will include seven teams from each conference. The No. 1 seed in each conference will receive a first-round bye. The No. 2 seed will host the No. 7 seed, the No. 3 seed will host the No. 6 seed and the No. 4 seed will host the No. 5 seed in the NFL's Wild Card Weekend.
